cwicseolfor@BruceMirken @Wyvernsridge While I can identify with the pain of seeing good people in the industry hurt (my circles are museum and art folks in a red-run purple state, one of whom relocated from HI), nearly everything I see from indigenous Hawai’ians the last fifteen years has been begging tourists to stop coming to Hawai’i. I have worried that eventually there’d be a hard crunch on that economy sooner or later. This may be the chance for a slowdown transition instead.

There's a vocal faction that wants tourism gone, but roughly 16,000 native Hawaiians work in tourism-related industries, per state figures. Many of us of all ethnicities wish we were less dependent on tourism, but we need something to replace it.
Visit New England...we have blue states, but ya still need to get through whatever bullshit awaits you at the airports.

@goodenough Yeah, nearly everyone I know here (TX) has been telling people not to come for a while. But it's also vitally important to distinguish between the public and the fascist rulers abusing them.
Part of how they've locked themselves in in TX is that without income tax, it all comes from property & sales, and SOMEONE will always own that property. So minimal consumption of taxed items (ie. other than food) if you're present, swap/ gift economies, DIY become resistance. Slow the engine.

I am the only member of my family that is sane enough to realize what is happening in Florida, and will NEVER vacation there ever.. Heck I happily take vacations to Switzerland to visit my girlfriend who is a Swiss citizen. NEVER going to vacation any where in the United States, and until I can figure out a good path to immigration into Switzerland I am going to remain a resident of my home state of New Jersey which happens to be a deep blue state
