But one thing that a “Minors DNI” statement does accomplish is broadcast to all young people that the user is not a safe adult for them to approach. If they have questions, if they’re queer and exploring their identity, if they’re isolated or neglected and need help, it does not matter — the adults on the internet have loudly turned their backs on them, so fearful of being accused of harming kids that they refuse to ever help them.

@tastytea we're not going to shame others for having "minors DNI" rules; after all people can set their own boundaries. but it's quite sad to see them so often.

for some plural and age-regressing beings that rule often also means that we don't feel welcome, that we'll probably won't even ask others with such rules for help, as in the text that you quoted -- the question "am i adult enough right now to interact with them" is a quite anxiety-inducing question  

our solution is that in the future we will have some new fedi accounts, some of which with strict "minors DNI DNI" rules
