#Czechia experienced a major #blackout today, and the fake news scene was full of references to the #GreenDeal and ecocommunism. Eventually, two competing (and contradicting) theories emerged:

1) the grid went down because too much power from German wind farms was going to it.
2) the grid went down because it wasn't windy in Germany and too much of our energy was going there.

In the end, it turned out that the blackout was caused by a downed wire on the main power line. But who cares about the truth these days? 🤷‍♂️

@sesivany I know it's not the point, but sometimes we need to hear this: You and I care about what really went down. So do many others who actually work in the field.

We love to be cynical about it, but just the reminder: We are here, we are many and we DO care about what actually went down.

We won't not let conspiracy terrorists poison the public discourse!

@sesivany damn those Germans with all that wind energy
@karolherbst Yeah, some people here are in such a state of mind that before falling asleep they must check if there isn't a German with a wind turbine in one hand and a solar panel in the other under their bed. :)
@sesivany @karolherbst haha thats so funny. im german and cannot stop laughing 🤣😂😅
@karolherbst @sesivany what outage, all my servers are fine and I got no UPS

@sesivany

Technically, it wasn’t a #blackout, meaning, that the power grid would collapse under the extreme demands of consumers. It was “just” malfunction of some component somewhere, but it lead to eight out of forty central distribution centres going off the grid, which was unpleasant.

@mcepl @sesivany jedna součástka shodila 20% sítě?🤔

Coz vlastne moc nevysvetluje. Pockal bych na nejake vysetrovani.

@dodo1095zd @sesivany

Vysvětloval to (ne moc přesvědčivě) kdosi v rádiu https://program.rozhlas.cz/zaznamy#/plus/52/2025-07-04 … že to byly tři poruchy, které se sešly najednou.

@mcepl @sesivany tohle je člen představenstva, ten tomu nerozumí!☝️🤣ten ví jak sehnat peníze 😉
@sesivany I care about why our "robust" energy grid has single point of failure?

@spingee @sesivany Could be, that downing that line caused extreme demand on the rest of the network and it resolved to blackout.

But it is only speculation.

@mkyral @sesivany Doesnt matter how it happened but our potential enemies now know that cutting single wire somewhere can bring half of country down

@spingee @sesivany

Only if we do nothing now, when we know it.

@spingee Um, electricity is not ethernet.
Too much data just saturates the line and nothing much happens, right? The same can't be said for electricity.
@sesivany Yeah, 4 hours without electricity, and with mobile networks unusable. I found out I still have FM radio in my phone, it was the only way to get some information 😁
@sesivany @vaurora I suspect that these narratives were pushed by info-mercenaries in the pay of fossil fuel interests.

@fivetonsflax @sesivany @vaurora of course they were. Think of all the dozens of companies and the dozens of PR companies and the dozens of PR department all beavering away to punt lies into the Information vacuum immediately after the incident occurs.

Then of course by the time the truth actually comes out peoples minds have already been made up .

@peterbrown @fivetonsflax @vaurora It's indeed how you describe it. Even after the official explanation which had nothing to do with renewables some people think it must have been renewables and the the official explanation is just a cover-up.
@sesivany maybe the german wind ripped the line?
@sesivany It seems more likely that it was intended to stop any constructive work you were hoping todo while the US was out drinking beer and eating burgers. I assume Czechia carried on drinking beer even without power.
@sesivany #Czechia “experienced a major blackout today”
“In the end, it turned out that the blackout was caused by a downed wire on the main power line. But who cares about the truth these days?” 🤷‍♂️
@sesivany Sadly, the truth is a target for right-wing billionaires who hate democracy

@sesivany Lots of cares about the truth, but there’s fewer and fewer truthful sources:(

So we should never shut up.

Also this summary was better than any news. Three paragraphs and I got everything I needed.

(Also redundancy is important.)

@sesivany France and Switzerland turning off their nuclear plants because it's too hot would have been a more reasonable wrong reason.

Hope the power came back somewhat quickly!

@chrisn it was definitely not as bad as the blackout in Spain. It affected ~1/4 of the country (including the capital) and lasted 4 hours.
@sesivany I understand you. You should see the madness that followed the blackout here in Spain on April 28. Not the actual event that went fine for most of us, but the fantasies and theories people invented after, blaming renewable energies, hackers or even inmigrants 🫨
@sesivany jedno spadlé vedení?🤔 To není moc spolehlivé. Kdyby to takhle fungovalo na Ukrajině, už to nikdy nenahodí...
