Go, Hakeem.

Appreciate your integrity and your recalcitrance.

"This big, ugly bill represents a massive giveaway to special interests [...] You've got folks in this town talking about 'Drain the swamp.' Guess what? You ARE the swamp. We've never seen anything like this, the type of corruption that has been unleashed on the American people."
"We've got some folks in this town who go to church on Sunday and pray--P-R-A-Y--and then they come to Congress and prey--P-R-E-Y--on the American people. That's not my faith."

Cynics will say that Jeffries' "magic minute" (8 hrs 44 mins) was merely performative. A stunt that doesn't change the outcome of the process.

But even if politics makes no room for moral victories, living in truth is never wasted.

Jeffries shows that there are still leaders who cannot be demoralized or broken on Trump's MAGA rack.

And he makes the GOP members of the House take a vote on Trump's bill in the full light of day, when they had hoped to do it in the wee hours.

@xankarn thanks for noting the upsides on this. It is genuinely difficult to not feel cynical about it because the reality is still so stark and dark.

@StephanieMoore

It's true. Bad things are happening. People are telling us who they are. But I'm also grateful for and buoyed by some of what's been revealed.

@xankarn
Johnson’s victory speech following the vote was deeply insulting to Leader Jeffries, directly calling him a liar for the (objective) truths he spoke.
