Shocked that PLDI 2026 will be in the US - I thought it would be blindingly obvious that the US are not a viable place for an international academic conference anymore. Just wrote an e-mail to the ICFP SC to that effect, just in case.

@sperbsen Agreed, but keep in mind that there are a lot of vulnerable people already IN the United States who cannot safely leave the country (because they would not be allowed to return). So there's no "blindingly obvious" answers here at all.

Also, what does the ICFP SC have to do with PLDI?

@jonmsterling @sperbsen Just this week at ECOOP in Norway there were several talks where the lead author was a PhD student in the US, and the student couldn't attend because they were concerned they could be prevented from getting back into the US. It was significant enough to be a topic of discussion among the conference organizers, but it's not clear what can be done about it.
