@andyjennings
I don't know how bad it is now.
My recent visits to #Australia n #AgedCareFacilities have shown a lot of floor staff doing little. Is good.
However it looked fine, before the RC, to me until I discovered my dad was being treated worse than a dog.
It is pretty much the same exploitative companies and managers running things now.
They are highly skilled in cover-ups, manipulation and letting abuse and neglect continue in pursuit of profits.
But, as you say, nothing is perfect.
@skua @andyjennings - the entry of for-profit providers changed everything, even for the not-for-profit providers. Services were pared down - much to the government's delight if it meant they could keep funding levels lower. The level of professional staff support - RNs and the like - was made interchangable with ancilliary staff for the same amount of money or less.
I dread the possibility of going into an aged care facility - but sometimes we have no choice.

AIUI large changes after Royal Commission reported in 2021.
Are you refering to changes made by #JohnHoward etc?
Link has what should now be in place.
(A failure to provide adequate registered nurse hours resulted in a vulnerable parent of mine being stupified, weakened and falling multiple times due to a new medication. So no confidence in facility managers. & doubts about the public servants meant to be ensuring quality. cf #RoboDebt.)
