I’m convinced that the cost in terms of developer hours wasted by changing double quoted strings to single quoted just to satisfy Rubocop, exceeds the savings in terms of the postulated increased cognitive load and potential for defects by an astronomical amount.
While it probably seemed like a good idea at the time, it has become clear now that combining a linter and an autoformatter in one tool, was a mistake.
@Adamlett other than basic indentation and other things which are clearly mistakes, I’m not convinced that formatting is worth worrying about as much as people think.
@collin I agree completely. I actually think it’s kind of neat when you can tell who wrote a particular piece of code by their stylistic idiosyncrasies.
