So there's people who say you can cure Type 2 diabetes with diet and exercise. There's only one problem with this: Every single study says that's not true. At *most* the studies say you can reduce A1C by about 2.5 points with diet and exercise, and that was a very strict diet with a lot of exercise. More pragmatically, sensible diet and exercise in a general cross-survey of studies reduced A1C on average by about 1.5 points. Not enough if you were at 10+ on diagnosis! #diabetes
2/ So if you can't cure Type 2 #diabetes with diet and exercise, what can cure it? The answer is: it can't be cured. Despite the influencers and snake oil peddlers saying otherwise, all the actual scientific research says that Type 2 diabetes is a metabolic disorder, not a lifestyle disorder. It can be treated with medication to address the underlying metabolic issues and yes, diet and exercise can help that medication work. But it can't be cured.
@badtux My wife says “reverse” diabetes, not cure it. Almost all of her clients’ doctors take them off metformin. A couple of her worst-off clients who had been confined to a wheelchair can walk now. That is what people care about, even if the technical definition of “cure” doesn’t happen.
