#makeShitMonday, #crochet edition, in which I learn a sweet new yarn join...

I'm finally at the point in this wrap where I need to transition to the second skein - and my go-to minimal-complexity join (tie a double knot and weave in the ends) isn't suitable because the crochet lace is so open, I don't think the ends would stay woven. 😬

So I asked in one of my online communities, and a more experienced fiber crafter recommended a [Russian splice](https://blog.berroco.com/2014/12/09/emily-explains-a-few-methods-of-yarn-splicing/). I've seen it mentioned before, but was concerned that 2-ply lace-weight yarn wasn't thick enough - she said it works even on single-ply cobweb yarns, so I gave it a shot, and it's *magic*. The splice is visibly thicker in the yarn strand, but it happened to coincide with a couple of double crochets in the pattern, and it's practically invisible! πŸ₯° πŸ§ΆπŸ’–

I'm getting pretty close to my target width for this wrap, so hopefully I can finish it up this week... 🀞🏻

I'm just putting the finishing touches on these two scarves / light wraps for my friends! We're all on a trip together this week, so I'm getting live feedback on how wide each friend desires their wrap to be - and we have some bus rides to excursions coming up in the next couple days, so that will give me the chance to add on a few more rows as needed.

...and of course I forgot to pack any of the yarn I ordered to make *myself* one, so once I get these two done, I will be without a fidget toy for the rest of the week. Hopefully I will get organized enough to use that time to write postcards, so I can actually mail them from overseas, rather than just writing them on the plane home and dropping them in our mailbox when we arrive. πŸ˜‡

I did it! The wraps are a wrap! 😁

Everything went as planned, despite a firedrill where I lost my crochet hook at the start of a long flight that I'd planned to use for finishing them up - fortunately I found it under another seat when we landed. *whew*

I was still far enough along that the recipients could let me know how much more width they wanted... Managed to get a lot done on bus rides while traveling, and I finished them in time to present for the big group dinner near the end of the trip.
Really happy with how they came out, and my friends seem thrilled with them, yay! 🧢🧣 πŸ’–

(Friends pic posted with permission, of course!)

Think I'm going to take a break from this pattern and make some slippers for @mbroome before I tackle the wrap for myself. It'll be nice to have a change of pace...

@llorenzin @mbroome @crochet Those look fantastic!! Well done!
Also the pictures don't do the dimensions justice until you see them on someone, so impressive!
@cannibal thank you! πŸ₯° It was definitely a labor of love, especially near the end when I was just cranking them out. They're worked as long rows, rather than short, which I always find a little more difficult since I don't get that completed-another-row dopamine hit nearly as often... 😊
@llorenzin @crochet these look absolutely lovely!
@cannibal thank you! I'm really happy with how they're turning out. Turns out that lace-weight silk/alpaca is a whole lot like crocheting with a tangible cloud, and now that I've gotten the hang of managing the tension on something so light, it's such a lovely tactile sensation to work with it...
