New Canadian social-media platform Gander to buck US dominance.

G&M: "Titled Gander Social Inc., the app was created by five Canadian co-founders who grew frustrated with the torrent of trolls, disinformation and divisive content they experienced on other platforms, largely owned by American tech giants."

Will it have a cobra chicken mascot/logo?
Will posts be called "Honks"?

Will it be Canada-centric, not US-centric?

@AlisonCreekside Some of the largest "Canadian" social media accounts are trashy aggregators like 6ixbuzz and Narcity which constantly post ragebait, and are full to the brim with hateful comments ("engagement"). Looking at the advisory board for this startup, I don't see how they wouldn't bow to the same VC-driven "growth" motives as exist in the US, and push those kinds of channels to the forefront of their algorithm.

OK, technically ATproto is an open protocol. But if they're just going to curate the Bluesky firehose, I'm out.

Also, not a single one of their principals shows a Fediverse or even a Mastodon logo. Open protocols, but not ActivityPub which actually accomplishes their alleged goals?
