I'm curious: how many tomatoes does one get from a single garden plant in a season? Assuming all goes to plan.

@deborahh

My understanding is that it's best for gardeners to assume nothing when it comes to growing plants and veg. Good luck though.

@srfirehorseart I've never grown balcony tomatoes - I always assumed it's more for the pleasure of doing it than the volume of fruit! That's why I asked.

@deborahh

Balcony tomatoes sound exciting!

I don't grow any plants, instead I occasionally plant and trim back plants that grow themselves. The rest I'm just as surprised by as everyone else.

In this sense I have managed to maintain a rosemary plant (which has also survived being run over by a car), several fennel seed plants, a flowering plant that self-seeded, some mint and a small lawn. No sprays or feeding, but I occasionally water in the heat.

@deborahh The last time I tried, I got zero. Then, I figured out that the balcony's mosquito-net is very effective for (or against) all pollinators
@olafk LOL. Get out your tiny paintbrush!
@deborahh figured it out too late, and since then I've given up on tomatoes
