Douglas Adams has Sam Altman’s number in 1979:

The Encyclopedia Galactica defines a robot as a mechanical apparatus designed to do the work of a man. The marketing division of the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation defines a robot as "Your Plastic Pal Who's Fun to Be With. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy defines the marketing devision of the Sirius Cybernetic Corporation as "a bunch of mindless jerks who'll be the first against the wall when the revolution comes”

@abstractcode the Sam Altmans will be with us always
@BenAveling @abstractcode Preferably freeze-dried, coated in plastic, and used as cautionary museum exhibits…

@abstractcode and the follow-up paragraph gives out even more hope:

Curiously enough, an edition of the Encyclopedia Galactica that had the good fortune to fall through a time warp from a thousand years in the future defined the marketing division of the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation as “a bunch of mindless jerks who were the first against the wall when the revolution came.”

@pcdevil I was wondering if anyone would quote that.

@abstractcode And then I've got this terrible pain in all the diodes down my left side.
@abstractcode @oscherler when talking to my friends I justify the choices I make as a software engineer and general human being as avoiding being the first against the wall when the revolution comes. Then of course I have to explain the Adams reference because it‘s a quite violent picture 😆 of course even trivial decisions when shipping software may have impacts that deserve this ire, so it‘s only half-joking
