Hello World! ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿป

I made the decision to leave Mastodon on July 31st, 2025. I am consolidating several social media accounts to a new Bluesky account (@jwheel.org). Going forward, Bluesky will be the best platform to keep up with me.

๐Ÿงต See the schedule below โฌ‡๏ธ

After July 31st, 2025, I will no longer post new content to this account. I will change the name and bio to indicate this account is no longer maintained. I will redirect traffic to my new Bluesky account.
After October 31st, 2025, I will set this account to private. Only my followers will be able to access my content. I will not accept any new followers to my account. This effectively archives my account.
After July 31st, 2026, if the account remains unused and unnecessary for me, I will download a data archive and then delete the account permanently.
@jwf while I understand the desire to consolidate and / or limit the number of platforms you're active on, I don't entirely get why you'd want to move to a VC funded, centralized, proprietary platform ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ

@decathorpe Fair question. For me, it is about the purpose for which I use social media. When I have too many platforms to manage and they are not convenient for me, I don't use anything.

For long-form, "valuable" content, this is why I will maintain my own blog for eternity. Things that I want to last and endure always go there first.

For ephemeral, less valued content, I'm okay sacrificing some personal software freedom to advance my other goals and motivations. Bsky/etc are public profiles.
