Here's a beautiful article from Der Postillon: https://www.der-postillon.com/2025/06/bezos-privatjets.html

One of its points is that one paper yoghurt saves about 10 grams of CO2, while one jet trip generates about 30 tons.

However, in Germany alone, the market for yoghurt is about 1 million tons per year. Let's assume that 1/2 of that is consumed in individual cups of 100g, which comes out to 5 billion cups, or a CO2eq of about 50000 tons.

That is, if all of these were paper/plastic cups.

Collective action WORKS!

@shezi Unfortunately, collective action could also lead to collective exhaustion. So even for each person willing to cooperate for collective action, it is worthwhile to “choose your fights” or: find out what action comes with a good “return over invest” and start with that. Investing an hour to find a better energy supplier could be one of the things to do first. Still, separating packaging for recycling doesn’t feel like effort to me, so I’ll keep doing that anyways 😜 #ecology

@ma Yes, and it's not everyone's responsibility to do all these things; it is policy's responsibility. Having a policy that mandates "save 10 g CO2 on each yoghurt cup" has an outsize effect on the world, much more than we give it credit for.

I don't write this to make everyone exhausted (I certainly am), but to give a sense of hope: sure, there are rich asocial idiots doing everything to ruin it for everyone, but
THROUGH THE POWER OF YOGHURT CUPS
we can beat them and save the world.

@shezi To the power of yoghurt cups! ✊🏻
