I've been following the #Meshtastic and #meshnetwork hashtags for a few months now. Cool article came out in Wired

Do we know if there's much of a community/network in Toronto or Canada?

The Texting Network for the End of the World

Everyone knows what it’s like to lose cell service. A burgeoning open source project called Meshtastic is filling the gap for when you’re in the middle of nowhere—or when disaster strikes.

For Canada there are those 2 resources:

Ordered my first device! Heltec V3 with a long range GIZONT antenna.

Didn't want to order from the US or Aliexpress, found someone on Etsy also in Toronto that sells those some of those devices pre-built

Got it without battery, wanted something from home to connect with people around. I'll wait for a SenseCAP Card Tracker T1000-E to be available in Canada to get a portable device.

It has arrived!

No instructions. Just 3 pieces that based on the product photo just get assembled together for the battery

I’ll have to dig out an instruction manual to set it up.

WHATS INCLUDED:
(1x) Heltec V3 running latest Meshtastic firmware
(1x) Custom 3D Printed Case
(1x) Stubby Antenna Universal & GIZONT Antenna 915MHz
(4x) M2 Screws
(1x) M2 Allen Key

Turns out the key is to open up the case if I wanted to but have no need to do right now. Then the main antenna that I paid extra is the big one, the smaller one is just the default one that I won’t have a use for.

It’s on now!
