American companies can't comprehend being able to speak multiple languages

(Post brought to you by YouTube and it's fucking annoying auto-translate bullshit)
@volpeon honestly its even annoying as a monolingual, i see a cool looking or informative video and then i click it and its auto translated and not only did i not want to see ai translation, but i cant even trust the information in that video
@volpeon @thesylveon I just watched a really good scathing review of a game called “Do you need velocity?: Refund”

It’s a good thing I bought “Need for Speed: Payback” instead, really dodged a bullet there
@volpeon @thesylveon Actually it probably isn’t significant enough but imagine companies start intentionally giving things difficult to translate names so nobody who doesnt have their phone set to English just can’t see any negative reviews of it

This would also make a good sci fi short story it thinks

NOT A FUCKING ACTUAL FEATURE ANNOUNCEMENT YOU FUCKING TECHBRO ASSHATS
@volpeon It is honestly annoying that they're doing that now. It just doesn't feel the same as a genuine dub.

@volpeon even if you actually think about it, it just doesn't make sense

because there are a lot of English/Spanish speakers in the US so they really SHOULD comprehend

@cato @volpeon what was that about silicon valley tech bros being out of touch with reality (and not (willing) to understand consent/opt-in)?
Also, did you know they also apply that shit to ads, just to make sure?
@volpeon yeah this annoys me so much, especially because the machine-translated titles are often very bizarre. It's so annoying that it can't be turned off.

@volpeon its been more than 5 years i think, and we still can't take out the autotranslate pacifier
@volpeon it annoys me. I hate google. They're awful and racist af imo. I try listening to my japanese news channels for language exposure and they audio dub that too! I hate it! Why won't they let me turn it off!
@volpeon it’s actually such distilled tech bro thinking though

languages other than English? people knowing more than one? cultural concepts that are difficult to translate? fucking synonyms? what are those things? we’ll just throw everything at Google translate that’ll solve everything

Ugh, I sometimes listen to videos in Japanese to practice my language learning, and the video will have some shitty robot Eng dub. Like dude, the video title literally has language practice in it. What sucks even more is the fact that I use YT Revanced, so I need stream spoofing to be able to play the videos at all, but by having it on, can't turn off auto-dubbing. Plus, YT (afaik) doesn't have a global setting to turn off auto-dubbing, so each video forces you to turn it off, which I can't do on my ver

@volpeon Americans in general can't comprehend speaking multiple languages. Especially in Texas. They think you're speaking some kind of code to inject communism into American society when you're really just talking to some one on Signal about hiking in Norwegian
