The Commission published its "Roadmap for law enforcement lawful access to data": https://home-affairs.ec.europa.eu/document/download/a29e61ce-7530-4bc3-91da-b448e70d468b_en?filename=Roadmap%20for%20effective%20and%20lawful%20access%20to%20data%20for%20law%20enforcement_en.pdf

This roadmap seems very important, I'd very much recommend to read it as a whole or at least skimming the key points!

Point IV notes (page 12) that "the Commission will support the research and development of
new decryption capacities".

By Q2 2026, a technology roadmap detailing what actions to take will be delivered.

@maxim What is the best way to contact someone from the EU commission to voice concerns about this? This is the same stupid thing they regularly try just with some "AI" sprinkled in this time...

@jakob There is usually some kind of public consultation (see e.g. https://ec.europa.eu/info/law/better-regulation/have-your-say_en ) before any legislative proposals are introduced. Beyond posting a comment once there is such a public consultation, I'm not sure there is much you can do at such an early stage.

In later stages of the process, put pressure on your representatives in the EU Parliament and your government (which influences negotiations via the EU Council) to not agree to the legislation.

@jakob As of right now, afaik there is no public consultation on the consequences of breaking cryptography. I would speculate that such a public consultation will happen once plans become more detailed (likely with the roadmap next released Q2 2026)

However, a consultation regarding data retention has just started, but the questionaire very seems manipulative (such as restricting reasons for opposing data retention to 5/11 reasons), so be very careful: https://ec.europa.eu/info/law/better-regulation/have-your-say/initiatives/14680-Impact-assessment-on-retention-of-data-by-service-providers-for-criminal-proceedings-/public-consultation_en
