Sporadic reminder to do a #backup of your #Mastodon account (i.e. request an #archive from your instance)! Even in the Fediverse servers crash and instance admins turn rogue, and all of a sudden you may be left with nothing but the last archive.org snapshot of your account, so... request your archives, folks!

I've heard about multiple such group deletions. Honestly these groups are the only thing I miss. They remain the only game in town after FB killed all mailing lists and web forums. It's odd now seeing them going against their own prey^Husers.

@grahamperrin @sam @_elena @stefano After about a week of appeals and protests we were told users were able to post about Linux and link to DistroWatch in most regions.
It seems each Facebook region/country has its own rules though so whether we were blocked (and whether the term "Linux" was blocked) would depend on where you live.

Dumping Meta should have been a no-brainer for a long time now, but when it came out that they played a pivotal role in the Rohingya genocide, anyone with a conscience should have dropped them. They haven't made any meaningful changes to prevent that from happening again.
The idea of having any complicity in enabling Meta to fuel genocide is abhorrent to me. And yet, people feel like the hassle of moving platforms is too big a price to pay to stop supporting a genocide machine?

@stefano @_elena Why would tech savvy people be running a group on farcebook when they could just buy some cheap web hosting and set up their own forum. It takes 5 minutes and you have 100% control, and hosting is cheap. Even better, forum systems have actual usable search functions, not the shitty FB system which is as much use as tits on a bull...
How many groups does this have to happen to before people start to get the message?
