improved relations with neighbouring countrys, correct, far less hords of British drunkards visiting Belgium and looking for a fight now.

@lohankuo @stephenserjeant True. I attended a meeting in Den Haag at which Mrs Thatcher was asked why the British were so "awkward" (polite way of saying bloody minded). She declaimed "WE are EUROPE'S ISLAND NATION!" A member of the audience suggested that the Irish be notified (among others).

The exceptionalist distemper lingers still.

@samueljohnson @lohankuo To my shame, I never really grokked the depth and breadth of English exceptionalism (and I think it is mainly a peculiarly English thing within the UK) until Brexit suddenly put me on the receiving end. My apologies to all my friends who are Scottish, Welsh, Northern Irish, Irish, or from beyond.
