Typed my symptoms into a search engine and the AI you can't opt out of popped up to say that I'm either having a stroke or anxious about going to the dentist. Very helpful, thanks!
Husband is a nurse and has reassured me I'm not showing any symptoms of stroke. 💜
@dramypsyd this is a good moment to remind everyone including myself of “FAST” (Facial drooping, Arm (or leg) weakness, Speech difficulties and Time to call emergency services ) – a simple and effective way to screen for stroke symptoms. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FAST_(stroke)?wprov=sfti1

@sofakante @dramypsyd
One should also keep in mind that one might have only one of the symptoms and even if it gets better after 10 minutes or so you should still get it checked out immediately, at a hospital, with some kind of brain scan (like MRT) - at least unless there's a very plausible alternative explanation for your symptoms (like being drunk).
Even if paramedics suggest you could just go home and call again if symptoms come back 🙃
@dramypsyd What I found interesting is that I was looking into Cannabis Use Disorder and Google kept encouraging me to seek help.
@jenzi Oh yes I often need to search resources for suicide and Google is constantly like "Don't do it!" and I'm like thanks I won't, but that's not why we're here right now
@dramypsyd I've lost someone to suicide and have battled depression and attempts - I appreciate that, it's my only fear with AI summaries, it may take over those helpful little boxes.
@jenzi Oh for sure 💜 And Google can so easily have "here's the crisis line for your location" without incorporating AI that is known for making stuff up
@dramypsyd
Duckduckgo let's me disable the AI response.
@AnnyJoe I need to switch over

@dramypsyd @AnnyJoe
In my experience it's often hard to find things with duckduckgo.

Startpage.com uses google under the hood but without the AI crap and as their service communicates with Google, Google doesn't know who did the search => better privacy than using Google directly (if one trusts startpage more than Google, but they're EU-based so they should be more trustworthy)

@dramypsyd Went to dentist this morning. After a couple of fillings, went to the pharmacy. Person behind the counter asked if I was ok. I said the local anesthetic was making me feel a bit woozy. “Oh” she said, “your face is lopsided. I thought you were having a stroke”.

@dramypsyd

"I typed your symptoms in this thing up here and it says that you may have network connectivity problems."

-Andy Dwyer (Chris Pratt)

@mastosalo 🤣 I read he improvised that line

@dramypsyd

Yes. The cast and the head writer were interviewed by Seth Meyers and they talked about that joke.

Also about the catchfrase of the cologne for toddlers: "Baby, you smell good!"

Great series and great stuff.

@dramypsyd If your search engine is the big G, you can opt out of AI summaries by adding “-ai” to the end of your query. As in, “best tacos in town -ai”.
@goondaba Thank you, it is the big G and this is very helpful information!
