Massive #telescope will map the #universe and provide an evolving record of the Solar System and distant #stars.

The #Rubin #Observatory will map the entire southern sky every 3–4 nights, observing each spot around 800 times over its 10 years of planned operations.

Eight science collaborations will sift through the data it produces, each focusing on different questions, from mapping the history of the universe and its dark-matter contents to tracking potentially dangerous objects in the Solar System.

The observatory will also capture an unprecedented number of transient and variable astronomical events in real time — stars whose brightness changes unpredictably, for example, and those that explode or suddenly disappear.

@mustapipa Efforts like this redeem my belief that most humans are positive forces in the universe; those that aren’t are not representative of what we can become.

@jadag88 This is what we can do if we choose to be more than primitive bipedal primates.

The potential is there even though many of us, unfortunately, refuse that choice.
