My server was hit by a bot that keeps downloading every single MP3 file on my server!

So I temporarily shut down the storage bucket to stop the bleeding! $$$

Now, I have to get a CDN in front of the bucket and configure it properly to keep these bots from messing with me.

Damn, the Internet can be downright hostile some days!

@gagglepod

Was the @Kolomona building his Dooms Day digital archive for the Zombie Apocalypse?

@ChadF @Kolomona

LMAOOO!! No.

Google calls it "Download APAC" which points to someone scraping or using a bot to target my storage bucket.

I'm going to build a custom domain, point it to CloudFlare, and then re-route traffic through that... or so my plan is at the moment.

@gagglepod @ChadF

lol I didn't realize that Chad's message was a response in a thread. I thought he was refering to me and my archive of media on my Jellyfin server 🙂

It's probably a misconfigured bot. If I were a scraper I would make my bot do it nicely so you wouldn't block it, but there are vibe coders / script kitties that make bots all the time

@Kolomona @ChadF Yeah. It's been hitting me at 7am and 7pm for 6 days now.

We're at 170 Gb of data at $9.00 of bandwidth costs.

The dark side of public buckets.

@gagglepod @ChadF

Holy crap. Is this for your business or Flowgnar?

You may want to look into ipfspodcasting.net

Though that wouldn't stop the abuse problem, it would help with the costs

@Kolomona @ChadF

Yeah -- It's my tiny hosting company, Oncetold (oncetold.com), which hosts Flowgnar.

Maybe it's a CloudFlare upsell tactic! LOL
