The reason it even is an issue is because timetables are integrated, and there's a plan

Switzerland to France? No one cares, because the timetables are so damned awful and the service so thin, and all bar TGVs just get to the first station after the border anyway

@jon and it is only the EC services that get systematically split now. This because these trains have their loco swapped and a driving trailer added, so need a full brake test etc... And that means that not much of the 23min stop can be used for recovering from a delay. So if that EC has a delay of 15 minutes having everyone change to a replacement service means that people arrive at their destination on time. And that is what SBB cares about.
