Well, I call bullshit. Sorry (canadian). It's what we do ;-)

Being tribal about D vs R when they are nearly identical is silly. USians start wars no matter who's in the whitehouse. It's what that country does. If you want a very long list, I can provide one to you covering your entire history. It's not pretty. Bad as the brits. Worse even (and I also have a uk passport, so I know).

Here is a list of which political parties have started the most wars:
Democratic Party: 7 wars
Republican Party: 5 wars
Whig Party: 1 war

The Democratic Party has started the most wars. The Democratic Party has started a total of 7 wars.

The wars that the Democratic Party has started include:

the War of 1812
the Mexican-American War
the Spanish-American War
World War I
World War II
the Korean War
the Vietnam War

The Republican Party has started a total of 5 wars. The wars that the Republican Party has started includes:

American Civil War
the Gulf War
the War in Afghanistan
the Iraq War
the War on Terror

It is important to note that the decision to go to war is a complex one.
It cannot get attributed to the political party in power. Many factors contribute to the decision to go to war.

So I think you may need to reconsider how you think of your country and global and economic affairs. Just sayin' ;-)

edit: missed a link for my quotes, but I have other links with the same info.

Which Political Party Started The Most Wars? (12 Startling Finds) - The Hive Law

@gemlog You don't think it's statistically significant that the Republican party is younger and their wars are within a smaller time frame?

No. No I don't.
If we were doing science on something then that argument would make sense, for sure. But we aren't.
This is politics and economics. Power and people.
I view the USA as a unit over its whole existence.
It doesn't matter which party is in the White House, because the usual suspects always control it.
The USA is a warlike country seeking cheap resources to enrich its corporations, no matter what.
Point final.

@gemlog Sure, if you want to base your entire conclusion on a number and a letter. I don't even think there would be that much of a difference if one party was always in charge over the other. To make no distinction at all, especially within the last 20 years, seems foolish to me, possibly even something that could eventually lead to your own harm. I could just as easily argue based on the same quantity of information that Canada isn't exactly a saint either. How many of those wars was Canada involved in? By that same logic, we can never trust Germany, Turkey, Russia, China, Japan, Israel, Rwanda, probably dozens of other countries that aren't coming to mind—not now, not 50 years ago, not 5,000 years from now—because they're genocidal psychopaths.

I say this as someone who has given up on America redeeming itself in my lifetime without the entire government collapsing and being somehow rebuilt by a government where the right-wing party is left of Bernie Sanders. I say this as someone who is literally applying for permanent residency in Canada and who would probably have already made an asylum request before I even had the qualifications for permanent residency if I had no qualifications for that. I say this as someone who has other countries in mind if Canada were to deny either of those.

@disorderlyf
Whoa! Whoa! :-)
Do you seriously think I'm going to defend Canada? The toady to the usa that follows them into any war? Fuck no! Geez louise.
We're just marginally less evil up here. That's all.
And, yes, of course I would have supported Bernie if I lived down there.
And, yeah, other countries are options. Nederlands comes to mind for example. That would be a good one. Your diplomatic service says that Dutch is the easiest to learn for a USian. Really, any euro country though. Anywhere else, but the USA.
Really, how about Mexico? You don't have to go to the insane chicago/detroit kind of places I imagine? IDK.
But I do feel you.

@gemlog I mean, you brought up Canada first. I just pointed out that if it doesn't matter that one is the lesser of two evils, then it doesn't matter if Canada is slightly better.

As for other countries, Germany, Spain, France, and Thailand are on my shortlist with honourable mentions to Portugal and Mexico. I've lived in Chicago for seven years and have been in enough cities that most white people here are scared of that only very specific parts of Mexico and Thailand actually scare me out of any of those options. And that's mostly because I'd stick out too much for it to matter even if I did know how to navigate those areas. As far as the Netherlands, I recall their far-right party gaining traction far faster than the rise of the far right parties in the other countries I mentioned.

@disorderlyf Oh yeah, that geert bastardo in nl. Also the AfD in germany. well, you look like you have your shit together to me and I wish you every luck.
If you''re the sort of person that wouldn't mind a prayer, then I'll put in a word for you with Our Lady too. ;-)
