First bit of #solar power generated around 4.25am today. โ˜€๏ธ
Final bit of #solar last night generated around 10.35pm. โ˜€๏ธ

According to the internet knowitalls, when I was considering getting #solar panels, I was definitely too far north to ever get any benefit from it. There's never any sun and panels are at the wrong angle and there's no more feed-in tariffs and blah blah blah.

Meanwhile: hello, negative electricity bill time of year. โšก๏ธ

@billgoats I was on a hardware store today and they had some new panels near the cash registers that look like just some pieces of black cardboard with a few holes to strap to a balcony. No hard structure or glass or anything. Even if my balcony only gets a few hours or direct sunlight per day, for just little over 300 euro, including the inverter, itโ€™s temptingโ€ฆ
@arroz You definitely donโ€™t need direct sunlight to generate. It helps, but even in shade you can get a decent amount of power out. Iโ€™d be kind of curious how a small system like that works. Can the inverter pull from the grid if thereโ€™s not enough solar power, or is it completely independent?
@billgoats Itโ€™s one of those small inverters that you just plug to a regular outlet. The power generation is limited to 400-something Watt so it wonโ€™t feed large appliances like water heating or stove but itโ€™s enough for all the phantom power and electronics that are plugged 24/7.

@billgoats empirical data > bullshitters

I don't know why they'd bother bullshitting on the topic in the first place, given easy access to insolation models.
