ShutterBugged@hannah @rysiek Revolt is pretty good. Sure, it's not federated (yet), but hosting a single instance with just your community server isn't an unreasonable use case.
I think the MVP of "federation" for revolt would be federated identity management, so you at least wouldn't need to log into each and every server someone operates just to chat there. Then the client could connect to all the servers and make it seem seamless, same as IRC clients have managed multiple remote servers since forever.
