"You should at most select 2000 Mails at once". That part within one of the docs pages of #Thunderbird kinda (but not really) explains why it starts to behave like shit when you try to do any operation on a large amount of items. Like not move any of them at all, or that action getting canceled as soon as it decides to look for new messages again. Or just freeze the entire UI.

Anyone have a recommendation for a mailclient that can handle being on large mailinglists? e.g. 10-100x that amount?

It crashed trying to do that and now it is downloading the entire folder again.

wtf

Oh god and two dais of mails are already more than these 2000 mails, so can't even select 2 days for archival at once.
uff

Oh it's 138000 Messages in total.

Glad I have to select them in batches of 2000 first in order to Archive them...

Now it says "Downloading message header 1 of 150312", so no clue how many there are then.

Now even before I finished this post that progress bar vanished again, jumped to "43 of 539" (or something like that), followed by "1 of 150313" and now it is back at "1 of 150312"
?!?

Pro tipp that I discovered way too late (just now).
You can double click that little status message in the bottom left corner of Thunderbird and get a proper activity window with progress bars and a list of all ongoing activities.

Funnily opening it also fixed the bugged error message in that status bar. It now properly shows the status. Wird.
