What is the practical difference between determing someone's age is betwen 6 and 26 and just....guessing?

If you’re rejected by the first attempt, go for the second, keep trying methods until you find one that succeeds, at which point you’ve “proven” your age and won’t need to do it again. This is one of the advocates for the ban explaining how it’ll be structured so that everyone can get around it and ignore it. If they genuinely expected it to work they’d make you bring 100 points of ID to Centrelink before you could log on to Facebook, but they won’t insist on that because the purpose of the ban isn’t to keep kids away from social media, it’s to legitimize the concept that the government has the authority to make decisions about who can access social media. Which is a new thing, they’ve never had that before. It doesn’t need to actually work to accomplish that aim, it just needs societal buy-in. Manufacturing consent, this is how the govt works. Which is why it’s so great that all these snake-oil tech vendors are inventing phrenology machines to service it: they’re the least legitimate approaches, the ones most likely to humiliate the govt and delegitimize what they’re trying to do. Bring it on, cunts. Give it your best.
