Windows 11 is awful. With support for Windows 10 ending, I'm debating trying out Linux. The main thing I'm worried about is messing up my PC and being unable to fix it.
@kelby The only way you could screw up your PC is if you partition your drive wrong and overwrite your Windows partition. Just make sure your files are backed up and that your Windows license key is tied to your Microsoft account if you're worried about overwriting it. Alternatively, if you have a spare SSD you could just pop your Windows drive out and install Linux on the spare

@Rusty That's good to know. I only have one SSD. However, I've been looking into an external hard drive to back my computer up onto.

Choosing a distro feels overwhelming, but it looks like Linux Mint is the most recommended one for people new to Linux.

@kelby Yeah Linux Mint is definitely the best choice for people coming from Windows. Honestly, which desktop you choose is probably going to have a bigger impact than what distro you choose. Linux Mint uses Cinnamon which is pretty Windows-like.

That said, most installers you put on a USB stick is going to load up the full desktop and let you try it out before installing the OS. You could try out a few distros and desktops before choosing one you like and installing it.
