Ed Zitron wrote a huge piece on how companies and governments are now being run by "business idiots". These function in a culture where form always wins out over substance. Of specific note in Ed's screed is the role of journalism & media: these go along with this narrative, praising bold but quite obviously inane statements by business idiots (who also work in politics and government). And this actively sustains the ongoing idiocy: https://www.wheresyoured.at/the-era-of-the-business-idiot/

So the question of course is, if business are being controlled by total idiots who have no clue, how is anything getting done? My own observation, most megacoporations have outsourced almost everything to suppliers not run by business idiots. My theory is that investors get the hots for companies run by business idiots and not for actual creators of code, services or products. "The megacorp" then only exists as a converter to fool investors. https://www.wheresyoured.at/the-era-of-the-business-idiot/

@bert_hubert I think there are a lot of people who care about good work and will do good work for the sake of it, often behind the backs of the idiots. They won't, of course, get any praise or credit for it because these managers, not having a clue, think it's because of their genius.

I've seen this over and over again.

@sergedroz @bert_hubert So true. Sometimes it is surprising to see what good work is done despite the managers...
