@bloor Perfectly sensible - things that may not see a great deal of use, go cheap, if you wear them out invest in the nice version. Only exceptions are where cheap tools may result in wasted expensive materials.

@nav @bloor On the subject of cheap tools, when we used to have to cut firewood for heat, Dad always bought cheap chainsaws like Poulan (not sure if they're still around).

His motivation? "If the tree goes sideways, you get away from it, you don't spend a few seconds thinking about saving your $2000 Stihl"

Not sure there's a similar example in DIY but I dunno.. 😂
