Some errata observations from the Civic Center from today’s no Kings rally.

There was one gentleman standing at top prominent feature. A lot of photographers were using as a platform and he was waving a Mexican flag..

That’s neither here or there, but several people interjected in complain that photographers would focus on that single image and ignore everything else going on.

..

I noted one guy waving a Palestinian flag, and another waving both the American and Ukrainian flags so that was a midst to sea of everybody else with their signs and largely American flags just as a note.

And yes, I do agree with people who were annoyed that journalist would take picture of that single guy. Because a good photographer would contextualize that single flag in the rest of the crowd. There are ample angles to make that possible.

..

Because the chanting was really boring. the woman who leads it is the same one who led the last rally a few weeks ago..
And I will say that we are well past the time of shouts about “shut it down”, needs specifics: shut down and break up big tech (all corps).

Lastly, as I was wandering out, I saw a threesome of MAGA clones, uniformed with the same hat and T-shirt with the phrase: Trump won.

I expect they were hoping to stir up a spectacle

@GhostOnTheHalfShell So far in Phoenix I am seeing the major MSM covering our No Kings rally at the state capitol. I saw LOTS of American flags, Palestinian flags, and Mexico too. Also glad to see flags for LGBGTQ, Trans Pride, and then lots of flags for tiny factions of people.

@cobalt123

Yeah, it’s just interesting to run across people who get their undies in a bind and I understand where they’re coming from, at the same time I found them to be incredibly obnoxious saying oh you’re gonna provide the wrong optics you can’t do that..

At a fucking political rally

@GhostOnTheHalfShell IMO the flag thing is some pundit’s made up nonsense

@GhostOnTheHalfShell I was pleasantly surprised to see a lot of American flags.

It's important not to let the Right co-opt the American flag.

@FlashMobOfOne

Yes. Of the things that I think were missed opportunities, singing, something like Gos Bless America or other songs that the far right think they own would be in a very effective message.

The right optics if you will in a sea of flags. I am personally dead tired of the far right setting the framing and everyone who opposes them falling in line like mindless little sheep.

Sorry, I am cranky about it, but that’s how things look to me

@GhostOnTheHalfShell #NoKingsProtest . This is why old fashioned tactics won’t work. We are facing stochastic violence and “flooding the zone”. The media are suckers for these tactics and swallow the bait.

Overcome stochastic violence with stochastic love.

Figure out the local MAGA donors, the Evangelicals with hate in their hearts who pump Trump full of cash.

Their businesses take deliveries. Their churches hold services. Randomly show up at such events and shout messages of love, “come back to America!”, “love thy neighbor” quote bible verses at them, shout “USA number one! We forgive you!”

Disrupt and shame the everyday people who think this is all just entertainment on FOX news. Bring it home to them wirh a smile and an open heart. Non-violence works #NoKingsProtesta #SanFrancisco #MelissaHortman #JohnHoffman #VanceLutherBoelter

@Edgar

From what I understand, you could open up a random page in the Bible and find some reference to welcoming the stranger.
