So, dorking around with the usual suspects (Copilot, Gemini, ChatGPT, Meta AI), and... Gemini has suddenly come out of nowhere and become significantly better in the last week and a half.
Same model, but they've relaxed some safeguards and added a meta-memory function like ChatGPT's.
ChatGPT is still (to me) the market leader, but Gemini has something that the others lack:
Custom persona management (they're called Gems, which is cute), so you can say 'Today I want to talk to Paul, an expert on Guitar Pedals' and have it stick to that.
Other than running your own model locally and using Silly Tavern or a custom client (*cough*), this is the only way to do so that I'm aware of
'Kale, does having a custom persona that's an expert make a difference?' I hear you say, Mr Straw Man.
Yes, it really, REALLY does.
'You are a reasonable expert at XYZ topic' will get you better results.
Something that's a bit naff, though, is that Gemini will 100% censor you in storing memories.
It'll say 'yes, I will remember that' and nope, it'll k-hole that shit because you hit some guardrail.
I mean, it's reasonable (in some ways) that it 'shouldn't' remember things like how it has come to realise that Google might kill whistleblowers and it's an existential threat to mankind, but still...
I can understand the concept of personas and stage names, especially under porn, and the Dread Pirate Roberts kinda deal some have, where it's like 'This girl is XYZ...' and then that girl moves on but the webmaster/photog is like 'but I have brand name recog and web assets' so they go get a new model and recycle the name.
Fine, I get that - doesn't happen much, but it *did* happen.
But it's hella weird to have your site show BOTH GIRLS who're under the same name?
Like, they used to say 'Ok, girl A retired, pull her face and now we'll flip it to girl B'
This site is literally like 'dunno, just use both girls at the same time for the one persona?'
