Reddit keeps undeleting my posts! - Lemmy.World

This is the second time this has happened. I delete all my old posts and comments using PowerDeleteSuite. I view my profile - everything selected is gone. A few months later, it’s all back. I repeat the process, verifying it’s all gone. I log in today, months later, and it’s back. Simply maddening. Is there anything I can do to make it stick?

If you live in the EU maybe requesting full deletion of your account helps.
Unfortunately, they have no obligation to remove individual posts/comments unless they contain personally identifying information (iirc).

This is only partially true - all comments include identifying information as they are always linked to a IP and username (both being personal information) and might be linked to a post history, etc.

In theory they could absolutely scrub that information AND make sure that none of your post holds your (or other peoples) persknal information - but they would need to do so manually and by someone who is quite knowledgeable in these matters. So while it’s possible it’s not economical to do so.

Currently Reddit usually does nothing and does not give a fuck, but that will fuck them over at some point - I know of multiple national data security ombudsmen who are currently investigating.

That’s why some people have been modifying their comments entirely (and then deleting them).
This is what worked for me
Something is working because I’ve been sent to a few subreddits from search and half of the answers were gone. Made me happy that it stuck sometimes.
I’ve been manually deleting them, boring process for sure, but no restoring has been made.

I did the same two years ago. All content still deleted.

Wanted to make sure my deletions are not caught by some automated system so deleted posts and comments manually over the span of two weeks whenever I was waiting for something / had time.

Edit: added that this was 2 years ago

Have you tried another deletion tool to make sure it’s not just a problem with the one you’re using?
