@simbarr Who else still has the Preamble to the Constitution memorized? https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2giqy

@epicdemiologist @simbarr My 6th grade teacher back in 1972 offered extra credit if we memorized the preamble. On the appointed day we took turns standing up and proclaiming it. A half-century later, I still know every word!

@CommonSparrow @simbarr I still remember Marc Antony's funeral oration. I memorized it from hearing just about everyone else in my 9th grade class use it as their speech from memory. (I did a different one, which ironically I can no longer remember.)

The Preamble, I got from Schoolhouse Rock.

@simbarr I've had the 90s cover by Pavement in my head this week.

@simbarr the Republican ambivalence regarding democracy and freedoms for ordinary citizens is breathtaking. You can't even anthropomorphize them any more. They lack humanity

@simbarr I mean though the last line of the song really should be: β€œβ€¦once we implement Manifest Destiny”. It even rhymes with the current last line.

Sorry, that joke may in fact be too soon.

In seriousness, my problem with Schoolhouse Rock was that in the end it too was propaganda by being overly optimistic about the structure of the Republic.

Plus, as my joke points out, that clip you have there ignores that it was, in fact, an imperialistic Republic.
