Ever-higher: the dangerous rise of bonnet height, and the case to cap it

@kim_harding

Electric cars don’t even need a bonnet type design.

@kim_harding Someone else made my point earlier.
EVs don’t need the stupidly high bonnet, but some of the SUVs have an even higher bonnet than the old versions with a boot space and a fridge under it.
@BashStKid The whole point of SUVs is to bully others off the roads, the stupidly high bonnets are there to intimidate other road users...

@kim_harding I wouldn’t want to be a hypocrite, I have SUVs myself, in a working capacity as we have a Welsh hill farm. I appreciate that’s not the usual use case, though.

Not in favour of high bonnets just as much for chicken safety as childrens’.

@BashStKid @kim_harding Dont forget there is 15-20 cm of battery pack under the body. The motors can be a bit smaller but they still need to pack in inverters, gearing, cooling, heat pumps, steering racks, suspension, various ECUs and wiring. Also, heat rejection is a huge issue in EVs when you consider a family car is likely to have at least a 100kW motor. Even at 97% efficiency that’s 3kW of heat to get rid of somehow. Therefore there is a tonne of plumbing to sort out too.
