So I pull the bottle away from my face and lo and behold the most massive hornet I have ever seen in my life plops down and hits the ground. Little guy was drunk as all hell after taking a swim and thankfully didnt sting me when I had his ass in my mouth

Ex NummisHad a similar encounter with a wasp. Little bastard was blind drunk, I enjoyed seeing him trying to fly and failing out of sheer intoxication. Bumped into the umbrella stand a few times before it decided that walking was probably the better means of locomotion.
If it was a Murder Hornet, you should’ve called animal control. They want to eradicate the invasive species.
WesDym@ToastedRavioli Might have been a cicada killer, a kind of very large wasp that lives in much of the Eastern US. (Wherever there's both cicadas and sandy soil.) The males are smaller, but still quite large, and cannot sting. (They will still charge you, however, to try to scare you away.) Females are larger, but avoid humans and are not often seen, despite their size. Females can sting, but usually won't; they're pretty docile, as wasps go. But they look scary.
Of all the true stories of life experiences I’ve heard told to me over the years, that certainly is one of them.
