'Iran warned it has a "legal and legitimate right" to respond to Israel's deadly attacks Friday [...]'

Actually, no, that is factually incorrect. A State has the right to defend against an attack from another State's territory until that particular instance of attack has ended.
There does not exist any right to "retaliate", nor any right to "preemptive attack".
Both of those are simply acts of war of aggression.
If a State has been attacked from another's territory and they don't resolve it diplomatically, the attacked's right is to bring the matter to the UN Security Council, which then is to consider potential sanctions which may be of many types including economic and even deciding that the attacked State is given the right to go to war against the attacker, for example if the attacks keep reoccurring. In the latter case the attacked State does then have a legal right to go to war without it being a war of aggression, crime against peace.
Both Israel and Iran keep claiming fictional rights to "retaliate" or "preempt" as justifications for war, but those do not exist, for any State equally.
Not my opinion or wish. It's the States' system as they have designed it and all States agree to by declaring themselves States, is a part of the UN Charter and similar.
Israel: We must attack them to stop them from getting nukes.
Iran: We must get nukes now because they attacked us.
Or, actually literally:

“One should not speak to such a predatory regime except in the language of power,” the Iranian government said in a statement.
“The world now better understands Iran’s insistence on the right to enrichment, nuclear technology, and missile power.”

Anyone could and should have predicted that result of the attacks.
"Iran says Israel attack 'declaration of war'"

Almost true. Israel's bombings were acts of war of aggression, initiating a war without right to war (jus ad bellum), which is not just a violation of international law but also as often quoted from the precedents setting Nuremberg Tribunal "the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole",
but it was not a "declaration" of war, it was launching a war without a declaration, which technically is also a separate (and lesser) violation.
What they may have meant was to say that due to Israel's bombings there is now a de facto and de jure state of war, an international armed conflict, which is true, as technically the moment one bullet (or equivalent or more) crosses from one State's territory into another's those States are in a state of war until they resolve it diplomatically (or remain unaware of it/ignore it away).
Oh, whoops.
I now noticed that I accidentally broke my toots-thread dedicated to Israel's war of aggression bombings of Iran (and related) during the night to today.
My first thread accidentally ended here https://todon.eu/@b9AcE/114673285586626180 while it should have continued with everything in this thread.
Erdoğan commented Israel's war of aggression attacks in Iran during night to today and onwards.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday warned Israel was seeking to drag the world into "disaster" after strikes on Iran, urging the international community to stop what he called Israel's "banditry."
"The international community must put an end to Israeli banditry that targets global and regional stability," said Erdogan.

I mean... everyone should protest Israel's war of aggression bombings, anyone's war of aggression anything, but... maybe not Erdoğan, specifically.
At one point I counted that douche being in a total of FIVE wars of aggression on two continents, on the aggressor side, at least,
and is currently in two wars of aggression launched by Erdoğan.
You are exactly the same as Netanyahu. In genocidalism, expansionist aggression, oppressive rule and in being a threat to everyone on earth.
has been published as an official English language text too:More bombing by Israel at Tehran now (video).
Also report of bombing in the city Isfahan, central Iran.

Three people reported dead in Israel after Iranian strikes; Tehran says 78, mostly civilians, killed in Friday’s surprise Israeli attack and confirms new wave of retaliatory strikes on Israel
The "Free Life Party of [Iran-held part of] Kurdistan" (PJAK) on the Israel/Iran war:
─────
[…] This is a war of power and conflicting interests, not a war of liberation for peoples and nations. It erupted as a result of the Islamic Republic’s expansionist and warmongering policies, showing no regard for the suffering of the Iranian people. The rulers initiated this war, and the costs are being borne by a population already struggling with social and economic crises. The high number of civilian casualties, especially women and children, in Iran and Israel during these attacks highlights the grim reality that states hold little value for people's lives.
The people of Iran should not be forced to choose between war and accepting a dictatorial regime. The Free Life Party of Kurdistan (PJAK), which opposes the imposition of war on the people of Iran, emphasizes the principle of democratic struggle. It is the people’s democratic struggle and the unique "Jin, Jiyan, Azadi" (Woman, Life, Freedom) revolution that will bring freedom to Iran. Achieving the goals of our democratic revolution undoubtedly requires unity and collaboration among freedom-seekers, democratic forces, national fighters, women, and identity movements.
