A whole new world. A new fantastic point of view.

A young physics professor named Lester conducts a particle experiment. Suddenly, something goes wrong, lightning strikes, and in a moment Lester finds himself in a strange alien world.

Now he must fight for his life in this strange place. Luckily, he'll find help along the way..

The ScummVM Team is pleased to announce full support for Out of this World (aka Another World).

@scummvm this game's art is fantastic

@scummvm

Cool!

I do remember that someone already tried reverse engineering AW , but faced legal trouble, because of the 15th Anniversary edition. I hope this goes well.

@Kaution It was ScummVM. It wasn't really legal trouble, as much as Eric Chahi asked them to not do that, as at the time he bought the rights back and was working on the 15th Anniversary edition.
@dosnostalgic @Kaution I have that, but can't play it:
@jernej__s @Kaution I've got one install left.
@dosnostalgic @Kaution I only installed it once, but I did upgrade my computer several times…
@scummvm High five! 🖐️
@scummvm Excellent! A timeless masterpiece of a game (especially the artwork is absolutely beautiful considering the hardware limitations at the time). Thanks for all your work in helping to preserve gems like this for future generations. :)
@scummvm this game is so hard! But the grafics and sounds were awesome on SNES
@scummvm this game was awesome on the Amiga!
@scummvm this game was mindblowing at that time, it's incredible how it was done by a single person, while nowadays you can see indies with tens of people in the acknowledgments. This is a masterpiece from a genius. The song at the end of the game still makes my mind fly.
@cipper @scummvm The sequel Heart of the Alien is pretty cool too, albeit not as cool as the original
@GabeMoralesVR @scummvm I think the sequel was only for some consoles, not ported to PC

@cipper @scummvm It's been ported to the Amiga long ago

I also have one of the super hard to get atari jaguar version, too.

Heart Of The Alien ported to Amiga - Amitopia

Another World is one of the most epic and iconic Amiga games that has been made for the platform of all time. It was released for Amiga in 1991, by Delphine Software.  This game introduced superior lifelike animations to a platformer game, that no one had seen before. Now, after many years. The sequel, which […]

@GabeMoralesVR @scummvm maybe it is better the original SegaCD version, in some emulator

@scummvm One of my absolute favorite SNES titles. It's like playing a movie.

I first played this as a rental when I was home sick from school for a few days. I was completely blown away, I'd never seen a game like this. True masterpiece that worked my mind to figure it out (though I did call the Nintendo support line once when I was stuck!)

Congrats on the support for it!! 🔥

@scummvm classic masterpiece game!
@scummvm which version are you emulating? Amiga/PC/other?

@hollowone @scummvm The compatibility page currently only mentions DOS / Windows 3.1, but I noticed yesterday that there is at least some code in the engine for other versions. I submitted a tiny patch (now merged) to detect the Amiga version, and it worked well enough to play the first level, at least.

The Amiga version is included as a bonus with the GOG and Steam versions, though at least for now you have to extract the files from the disk images for ScummVM to read them.

@scummvm Oh good memories on the Amiga
@scummvm I remember trying this game (demo version?) on a Mac when I was a kid. I don't think I even managed to jump over the first enemy with the sharp tooth/claw thing.
@woltiv @scummvm You had to kick those :)
@jernej__s @scummvm Maybe I'll give it a try now and see if I can get anywhere! :)
@woltiv @scummvm I never liked that first level, kicking those slugs is tedious, but once you get past them, the game gets much better.
@woltiv @scummvm I played it at a friend's house as a little kid and never caught/forgot the name, but I had dreams about that sequence! 😆
@scummvm I noticed a graphical glitches during sequence near the end (after the pods are ejected from the stadium), but otherwise seems to work fine. No music though.
@scummvm
One of the best games of this period
@scummvm Captain, this is not a point and click game
@scummvm Chara tells me...they pushed themselves through this game, while they were at Caltech, in Mac port form. I can hardly believe it of them because they seem to hate fun, but...they say they finished THIS one and I believe them. said they cried at the end ~Kris

@scummvm Nice, always loved the atmosphere and the graphics are timeless! Super hard and rather unfair at times but this one etched itself into my brain.

I also kind of misused the intro as a video for one of my tracks :D

@scummvm I may finally be able to play beyond the <count-on-fingers /> 5th screen.
@scummvm That made me curious. How comes the Scumm team has decided to integrate that game to ScummVM, while it seems quite far away from "point and click", and how much of the codebase could actually be shared between Eric's bassembly and LucasArts' scripting tools ?
