Warren Spector's masterpiece #DeusEx is now available as part of the Playstation Plus Classic cataloge 👏 It's one of my all-time favorites and a game that had a huge influence on Western action RPGs. For the young folks: it's like #Cyberpunk 2077 but released in 2000.

The Playstation Classic version is the emulated PS2 game which is a downgraded version of the earlier PC release. If you have a PC or Steamdeck, I highly recommend the better Steam or GoG version. It's only 0,99€ for the next 12h hours on GoG including the optional and free Revision mod which adds a number of improvements.

The Steamdeck version is Platinum rated at ProtonDB and should run fine.

@chris "For the young folks: it's like #Cyberpunk 2077 but released in 2000."

Heh, that's actually exactly what I was thinking when I played Cyberpunk 2077. The sad thing is, Deus Ex has had many versions since the first, but none enjoy its fame or success. (I do still think the second was actually not bad. I kind of like it better these days as it's a bit less janky.)

The original sure hasn't aged well though. Maybe I'm the odd one out in saying that, but like I said, it feels pretty janky by today's standards. And I remember even back then it could get hard at times managing the active augmentations. (I remember particularly having troubles keeping energy while using the speed mod in the middle of an active battle.)

Still, a great game and a true classic despite that.

@nazokiyoubinbou That's true, I still have the original PC game boxes for Mankind Divided and Human Revolution, both were excellent and are much more modern games both visually and in terms of modern QOL features we now got used to. The original Deus Ex is a direct successor of Warren Spector's 1994 System Shock and it shows (i.e. the inventory management, level design etc.) - I played these games at release (System Shock from floppy discs without mouse-look) and they really were super janky. But back then I could have never imagined how smooth and polished today's games would play and how photorealistic games would become 😂

@chris First time I saw Unreal I was blown away. Like completely beyond even imagination.

Hard to believe my standards would change such that it now feels tiny, cramped, and super ugly to the point it makes it hard to suspend disbelief for it anymore, lol. Sadly 3D graphics don't age as well as 2D graphics in general. Maybe the graphics before this current era will though. (This current era also will age badly when people start getting sick of every game looking like a blurry fever dream.)
