The Origins Of Strangehollow. Back in 2016 I started on Patreon. My purpose for starting it was to help me improve my consistency with the style of my work, which up till that point was kind of all over the place. (1/7) #watercolour #painting #strangehollow #folklore
That and to have a place where I concentrate on my watercolour work, having been working freelance digitally for a few years. I didn't have a particular idea at first of how to do this and began with just painting things I love, folklore and fantasy themed usually. (2/7) #watercolour
After a while I realised that I'd need to give myself some kind of framework and that's when I decided to illustrate the inhabitants of a vast enchanted forest. (3/7) #painting #dragon #watercolour
Initially I wanted it to be quite dark (I still hadn't embraced my true calling of a whimsical vibe), but as I started creating these creatures, it became obvious that it was not going to be a dark and moody place. This is a Brownie. (4/7) #brownie #fae #watercolour #painting
There was a specific creature I painted which clicked with me and has ended up being pretty much the same technique I use now (albeit I'm able to do much more complex pieces now) and I was completely in the zone when painting him. This Ogre is still one of my favourites. (5/7) #watercolour #ogre
I no longer use Patreon, I instead built my own membership called 'Mysterious Corner'. I offer a few tiers, and there's a very special top tier for those wanting a commission. You can find out more here: www.mysteriouscorner.art where I share all the stuff that never gets to SM (6/7) #watercolour
This is when Strangehollow was born. It would be a while till I found that name though. More tomorrow! (7/7) #thumbnails #watercolour #watercolor #painting
