This is not just revisionist history, it's ignorant of reality. Activists didn't leave Twitter because they "thought they would be more effective" somewhere else, they left because Elon made it clear that he would *deliberately undermine their influence." Why make shit up?

The entire point of Elon's takeover of Twitter, @mcmegan.bsky.social, was to tilt the playing field, which he has done. The whole point of @bsky.app was not to create an alternative space, but an *alternative system* underpinning it so that a future Elon couldn't do that again.

I get that the political pundits, like @mcmegan.bsky.social, aren't intellectually curious enough to bother to understand what's going on here, but if she had actually bothered to do some research, rather than a vibes check, she might have learned something.

She could have learned that (1) media properties see way more engagement already, despite the smaller audience. (2) that the level of engagement for media folks is growing, not shrinking (according to Pew study) as compared to ExTwitter. But, why do that when you can vibe spew nonsense.
And, she also could have learned the history of why Bluesky is set up the way it is, and why that design matters. But rather, it's more important to her to create a false hypo, in which people stayed on a platform whose owner was actively trying to stifle their voices. Bunch of nonsense.
@mmasnick.bsky.social JFC, McMegan is still around?
@mmasnick.bsky.social its what a lot of white people like to do
@mmasnick.bsky.social I left Twitter because I didn’t want to contribute to a platform owned by a fucking nazi.
