Can someone please explain this to me. Here’s two pictures of the setting sun at identical times of the day but a week apart. In one, from tonight, the sun is an orange orb in a blue sky, the other is a conventional, and rather pretty, sunset. I just can’t figure out why tonight’s setting sun didn’t illuminate the sky??? #hivemind #sunset #notsunset #edinburgh
@StockbridgeArch 🟠 The sun was huuuge last night!!
@StockbridgeArch there was a lot of smoke pollution in the air yesterday (and today) blown over from Canadian wild fires. When the moon did poke itself out from behind the clouds it was almost red last night.
@StockbridgeArch Air pollution, mate. Just imagine how our lungs look 😬
As others have suggested I would also think it is about clouds / amtosphere. You don't want too much clouds so the sun doesn't get hidden behind it. But equally if there's no dust / water particles there is nothing to reflect / break the light so no pretty colours ...
