Metal Gear REX.

God damn this was a cool build. I originally thought I'd build maybe a leg tonight, which turned into both legs, then the torso, then the rest of it.

It's a really fantastic and fun build. The upper and lower legs connect via what could be called an "illegal" technique, which reduces the stability and otherwise fantastic posability of the mech.

I also wish you could close the cockpit but it's a small gripe.

Overall if you're a Metal Gear and Lego fan (like me), I'd very much recommend picking up the midi scale Star Wars Millenium Falcon (75375) and grabbing the instructions.

For those playing at home, this is the "illegal" technique. If you look closely, you can see the plug part on the top half of the leg is slightly lifting the dark bluish grey socket part on the bottom of the leg from the plate it's connected to.

This means it has virtually no clutch, so even gentle movements and pop the two halves of the leg apart.

No "whooshability" on this one based on that. You could potentially had an additional plate or jumper to add a bit of clearance on the socket, but not sure how it look. Might need to test later.

Regardless, bloody beautiful build.

The legs on this thing are way too weak, especially the heel. Will need to investigate a better way to attach the heel - the clutch power of the two studs just won't stand up to the lateral movement of it sitting.

So I added one plate to the "illegal" bit I highlighted before which fixes the stress on the connection while not signicanty changing the overall vibe of the build.

The second weak point is circled - the heel connects to the rest of the legal by two studs. The weight of the build is straight down in the picture, so the force on the connection being at 30-45 degrees is making it very weak and quick to pop off. In the pic I think you can see a small amount of separation already.

Maybe a stiff hinge of some sort?
