Honestly kinda wish people would lay off on telling disabled folk that they can achieve their dreams and what not and just focus on removing all the fighting disabled folk have to do to just survive. Make survival easier (secure housing, secure income, safe and accessible healthcare) and then maybe we can do the inspirational chit chat about achieving dreams and shit like that?
(I jest of course.. the inspirational disabled people held up to show us we can achieve our dreams are held up to make abled folk feel better, not us. No shade to the disabled folk who have achieved their dreams, that's fricking awesome 🀘🏻
But when I see content created by disabled folk for disabled folk it's much more likely to be about rights and access, not the 'inspirational' stuff typical of content created by abled folk)
@3TomatoesShort What's even creepier: I just read an article on how humans who have extensive experience with #LLMs distinguish their writing from human writing. They can do so with very high accuracy, and one of the criteria they use is that these heartless programs indulge in "inspirational" BS far oftener than humans do. #LLMs overuse words like "testament", "crucial", and, yes, "inspiration". They're programmed Pollyannas. Sociopathy β€” artificial or naturally occurring β€” relies heavily on optimistic talk. And I rely on such talk as a sign that an ACTUAL heart is missing.
@dedicto
Ugh :/
@3TomatoesShort Long before I ever heard of #LLMs or knew that I was #autistic, I deeply distrusted the purveyors of "positive thinking" β€” and treasured this cartoon for its priceless satire on them and their motives:

@3TomatoesShort not to hijack, but that should go for everyone

remove obstacles for people & let them get on with it πŸ™

@3TomatoesShort
I agree
We know we can achieve our dreams.

We need help with finding places to work at that don't have arsehole bosses and healthcare- medical funds that are not full of crap about mental disabilities and will pay for the meds

@3TomatoesShort also like. It is *DEVASTATING* every time I have to give up or adapt my dreams because life just ISN’T accessible. Like yeah, I’d love to just do what I want, but when every step is excruciating pain, the lack of seating and places to rest crushes my ability to go a lot of places.
@RavynWitch
Yeah :(
Abled folk love to tell the stories of disabled folk whose conditions are fully treated, who are being provided with care, who have all the aids they need to help them move through the world.
The stories they don't like telling are of disabled folk whose conditions either have no effective treatments or who get gaslit by the medical system, who are carers but not receiving care, who can't access aids and supports because of ableism and capitalism πŸ˜‘
