Many years ago there was a 'reality TV' programme which involved a group finding their way across an island. At one point there was disagreement about the right direction. Several participants worked out the right way, but most were unsure. One, however, argued strongly for an alternative (wrong) route - and ended by saying 'Well I'm going this way' and simply went. Some of the group followed, then others, clearly torn, gradually did so too - until finally even those who were sure it was the wrong direction followed.
I think it was this one - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castaway_2000 - but not absolutely sure.
It鈥檚 worrying how little we talk about the psychological mechanics of ChatGPT & co. These chats simulate a comfort zone to make users *feel* good - breeding a self-satisfied echo chamber. We're raising a new generation of even higher-level ego-people.
@mogwai_poet I have heard that some young folks are inoculated to the nonsense of social media. but from the just leaving school generation so not full e-kids.
my concern is that the effect will compound, we've got a few generations now where cumulative effects are probably not well studied in terms of development phases pre-school - early school - high school - adult:
older: analog - analog - analog - internet
mid: analog - analog - internet - AI
youngest: internet - internet - AI - AI+??
