a reminder that living beings don't have to be "useful" to have the right to exist

@peachymist @mejc my dogs agree. Both useless

Oh you meant people? Well as they are more important than dogs, yes I agree

@Tattooed_Mummy @peachymist
I was thinking living brings generally. And I keep telling myself that my dog thinks I'm useful ๐Ÿ˜
@[email protected] tell that to this guy
@CrebboElodie idk who he is but he looks like someone who would be first in the guillotine should a revolution happen
@[email protected] He's The Fat Controller from Thomas the Tank Engine.
He threatens to scrap the trains if they're not "Really useful".

TomSka made a video talking about it on his second channel:

Thomas The Tank Engine Is Darker Than You Think

@CrebboElodie @peachymist That always bothered me about that show. (Yes, obviously, I have kids. I never watched it for my own enjoyment. I swear it.) Every time somebody gets praised, it's for being useful. Very disturbing life lessons are subliminally buried underneath that.
@[email protected] (Sparkles) except I don't practically get granted the right to exist if I am not useful
@peachymist except me
@mystie not true, although the world might make you feel that way
@peachymist unlike Thomas the Tank Engine, who is really usefulโ„ข.
@peachymist It took me years to give myself this permission, but I'm so glad I got it!
@peachymist "counter"argument: nothing is useless in nature, everything happens within the great cycles

@peachymist The question that punches holes in any complaint about the supposed uselessness of a person:

"Useful to *whom*?"

My life is useful *to me*. If that doesn't count for something, nothing counts for anything. Societies are made up of individuals, and if the individuals in society don't matter, neither does the society.
