Knocked up a birdnetpi from spare parts on a pi3b+ last weekend, getting some great data. Big blackbird action today. 645 detections so far.
@dougbarry what mic are you using? I have a box of 100 omnidirectional electret mics to use up.
@bencc I had a cctv mic with a crappy condenser mic on - but it is mostly waterproof, 12V pre-amp which outputs 2Vpp over a long shielded phono. Into a burr brown usb ADC. I was running that off a 12v wall wart, which of course was noisey AF in the sub 1khz. That’s now off a regulated output on my ecoflow battery in the garage, much better. Going to try a burglar alarm battery see if it gets even cleaner off that. The pi is on a poe hat, but I’m not very impressed with it. Might make the effort to put it on a wall wart with a long cable etc. Other option is set up an audio stream from something (esp-32s i2s mic maybe?), or an IP cam, feed that into birdnetpi on a pi indoors, or perhaps in some kind of container (don’t think x86 is technically supported - could always qemu aarch64). Final maybe is I’m looking at birdnet-go, a reimplementation of the idea written in you guessed it, go.
