@Gina @ariadne Have you ever seen an AFD promoter of regional elections smirking at you when you ask them why they invited a person that did 2 Sieg Heils on the most publicized event, just one week earlier, at their conference to speak on a big screen about their German pride ?
Have you seen them smirking when you ask them why they are against people that are not Germans living in Germany and then answering "you will find out" ?
I have.
This is not a joke and definitely not safe to ignore, even if you have the best intentions ( there is a saying for that ) you have to recognize that the most radical groups once started as a group of people with the same self fulfilling goals, pushing for a purpose they felt righteous until a "Leader" told them it is time to stop caring for democracy and what everyone else feels and start defining a world as you like with them as your family.
Your new moderator claims that it is ok and actually expected to become radical if people "call you names" as if there are not already clear actions and events led by those groups ( also something that apparently you think is bad to do, naming groups ).
AFD and MAGA are not some kind of book club, they have been actively hunting down/cursing/attacking people and been part of a full insurrection ffs, THAT is what defines them, not people calling them names because they feel disappointed...
These fallacies, dilution of accountability of actions and nonsensical arguments are why you have words like "nazi bar" and "dogwhistle" attached to fossdodon atm, not because some general misunderstanding. There is a saying from where I come from that goes "either the sea is tilted or the ship".
Seems like you really care about this matter enough to answer to an instance admin, but the key to get out of this is to feel ok to cut ties with anyone that tries to downplay actions of groups that caused serious antisocial and political events, that fact that is so hard to see this motivation in people is why your instance is constantly under heat.
Excusing, at best ignorance and at worst radicalization is not how you can inform people nor how you avoid radical groups from forming, there is no place for groups that tolerate misanthropy, detachment, cold-bloodedness to your next, unless we want history to keep repeating itself.
@NasaGuy It might feel that way if you have the privilege of ignoring the international rise of nazi ideology and rhetoric. It might feel that way if you have the privilege of assuming none of it affects you. Until they're done with the brown immigrants, the transes, the gays, the socialists, and finally they come for you.
If there is one thing everyone should learn right now, it is a little bit of dialectical materialism, and why political forces push the way they do.
@NasaGuy Hi, I'm from Poland. Don't trip over your ego :) And I'm sorry to say, anyone saying school taught them everything they need to know about history and society is painfully ignorant.
I can recommend you some easy and accessible entry points to learning actual politics and how the current US situation and the rise of AfD mirror the Third Reich and Weimar Republic respectively.
@chojzina @ariadne @NasaGuy wait wait wait wait...
Where in the everliving fuck, did they symphatize with AfD?
The only par I found about AfD was more or less: "They grew stronger, and calling them nazis, blaming all the world's problems on them, instead of ACTUALLY SOLVING THE PROBLEMS only strenghtens their siege mentality". I wouldn't call that symphatizing, but rather rational thinking.
AND YES - LEFT WINGERS CAN BE FACISTS. FACISM IS NOT LIMITED TO RIGHT WING!
@xsk @Gina reading his blog i think the intention wasn’t malicious, and while over-moderation can breed resentment (which is his point), obviously i disagree with him and think kicking AFD/MAGA apologists to the curb is the morally correct thing to do.
but i will accept he himself probably isn’t actually a fascist, just a useful idiot for them instead, which is actually more dangerous in my opinion.
I CERTAINLY don't agree with Anachron's blog post either, and as I've said at length, I believe he internalized anti-anti-fascist propaganda to a degree which makes him ineligible to be a mod, despite his earnest intent.
This is why he *isn't* a mod anymore.
Hi again, btw. I don't think you and I have spoken much since the "Korean Crown Prince" annexed Freenode. Nice to see you again, shame about the circumstances :)
