more alt-right mods at fosstodon it appears. it is unfortunate that we may have to take action such as defederation, but we will take whatever steps necessary to protect our community from fascist ideology (which does not belong in FOSS anyway, no matter how much techbros want to pilfer the commons)
@ariadne hi, our last mod wasn't alt-right, nor a fascist. A longer post on that tomorrow. I would like to mention that we see a lot of abuse and name calling coming from your server. Please keep things civil, thank you. 🫶
@Gina sounds like we will be moving forward on defederation then, with a response like this. disappointing.
@ariadne That's would indeed be very disappointing and def not what we would like to see happen.

@Gina @ariadne Have you ever seen an AFD promoter of regional elections smirking at you when you ask them why they invited a person that did 2 Sieg Heils on the most publicized event, just one week earlier, at their conference to speak on a big screen about their German pride ?

Have you seen them smirking when you ask them why they are against people that are not Germans living in Germany and then answering "you will find out" ?

I have.

This is not a joke and definitely not safe to ignore, even if you have the best intentions ( there is a saying for that ) you have to recognize that the most radical groups once started as a group of people with the same self fulfilling goals, pushing for a purpose they felt righteous until a "Leader" told them it is time to stop caring for democracy and what everyone else feels and start defining a world as you like with them as your family.

Your new moderator claims that it is ok and actually expected to become radical if people "call you names" as if there are not already clear actions and events led by those groups ( also something that apparently you think is bad to do, naming groups ).

AFD and MAGA are not some kind of book club, they have been actively hunting down/cursing/attacking people and been part of a full insurrection ffs, THAT is what defines them, not people calling them names because they feel disappointed...

These fallacies, dilution of accountability of actions and nonsensical arguments are why you have words like "nazi bar" and "dogwhistle" attached to fossdodon atm, not because some general misunderstanding. There is a saying from where I come from that goes "either the sea is tilted or the ship".

Seems like you really care about this matter enough to answer to an instance admin, but the key to get out of this is to feel ok to cut ties with anyone that tries to downplay actions of groups that caused serious antisocial and political events, that fact that is so hard to see this motivation in people is why your instance is constantly under heat.

Excusing, at best ignorance and at worst radicalization is not how you can inform people nor how you avoid radical groups from forming, there is no place for groups that tolerate misanthropy, detachment, cold-bloodedness to your next, unless we want history to keep repeating itself.

Not a single word of this reply has even the slighest bit of relevancy to the situation. I will admit, it is an impressive piece of writing, but aside from one line where you put words into the mod's mouth this is just a manifesto, not an actual reply to any of that person's claims.

@NasaGuy It might feel that way if you have the privilege of ignoring the international rise of nazi ideology and rhetoric. It might feel that way if you have the privilege of assuming none of it affects you. Until they're done with the brown immigrants, the transes, the gays, the socialists, and finally they come for you.

If there is one thing everyone should learn right now, it is a little bit of dialectical materialism, and why political forces push the way they do.

@outfrost I think that as a Polish person who was born in a town that during WWII dropped from being 40% jewish to pretty much 0%, and was taught about our history literally since 1st grade, I know more about the remnants of nazi ideology than you, and pretty much everyone engaged in this discussion.

@NasaGuy Hi, I'm from Poland. Don't trip over your ego :) And I'm sorry to say, anyone saying school taught them everything they need to know about history and society is painfully ignorant.

I can recommend you some easy and accessible entry points to learning actual politics and how the current US situation and the rise of AfD mirror the Third Reich and Weimar Republic respectively.

@NasaGuy we are discussing https://web.archive.org/web/20250601200137/https://blog.cron.world/article_12.html which was written by the mod in question, and that response is very related to the material.
Politically correct #1

@ariadne Yes, I am aware of the subject of this discussion. And nonetheless, this response is quite literally not a response to that blog post. Instead it's an essay describing how facism is bad (very brave statement), and also a threat. Everything this person says is true, but also none of it is an acutal rebuttal of anything the blog post said, aside from:"Your new moderator claims "*things they didn't claim at all*"

@ariadne

Ohhhh. Dude is of the 'left wingers are Nazis actually' variety AND finds reasons to sympathise with the German neonazi party.

Yeah, totally not a fascist. And the white, blonde chief-mod woman does not see the issue, eh?

Defederate.

@NasaGuy

@chojzina @ariadne @NasaGuy wait wait wait wait...

Where in the everliving fuck, did they symphatize with AfD?

The only par I found about AfD was more or less: "They grew stronger, and calling them nazis, blaming all the world's problems on them, instead of ACTUALLY SOLVING THE PROBLEMS only strenghtens their siege mentality". I wouldn't call that symphatizing, but rather rational thinking.

AND YES - LEFT WINGERS CAN BE FACISTS. FACISM IS NOT LIMITED TO RIGHT WING!

@xsk @ariadne just wanted to say that I read your toot, ty for your thoughts.

@xsk @Gina reading his blog i think the intention wasn’t malicious, and while over-moderation can breed resentment (which is his point), obviously i disagree with him and think kicking AFD/MAGA apologists to the curb is the morally correct thing to do.

but i will accept he himself probably isn’t actually a fascist, just a useful idiot for them instead, which is actually more dangerous in my opinion.

@ariadne @xsk @Gina thanks.

I CERTAINLY don't agree with Anachron's blog post either, and as I've said at length, I believe he internalized anti-anti-fascist propaganda to a degree which makes him ineligible to be a mod, despite his earnest intent.

This is why he *isn't* a mod anymore.

Hi again, btw. I don't think you and I have spoken much since the "Korean Crown Prince" annexed Freenode. Nice to see you again, shame about the circumstances :)

@jimsalter @xsk @Gina isn’t he calling himself the king of joseon now or something
@ariadne @xsk @Gina I don't know, I've managed to stay blissfully ignorant of him since the last time I had to talk to Conde's lawyers about whatever he had to say about my article.
@jimsalter @ariadne @xsk @Gina He isnt a mod anymore because he stepped down. If he didnt step down Gina did not say he wouldn't be a mod anymore, and you dont seem to be willing to say his views should've prevented him becoming a moderator anymore which is WEIRD
