Low-key miss the days of single-purpose apps, honestly
@quillmatiq Everything old is new again.

I remember back in the late '90s, all the search engines decided they were now web portals.

They cluttered up their front pages with news, sports scores, web directories, links to email and chat rooms and classified ads.

All painfully slow on a 56k modem.

Needless to say, you probably haven't visited Excite or Lycos lately...

@aj This is a great parallel - the clutter of the "everything page"
@quillmatiq We already have an everything app and it's called the World Wide Web.
@quillmatiq there’s more than one way to monetise a cat
@quillmatiq Everything apps are like the highlanders: "There can be only one".
@cochise @quillmatiq And they both have unwarranted sequels!
@quillmatiq the singularity app
@quillmatiq There’s no such thing as exponential growth. Unless you’re #magic.
@quillmatiq This was the CEO of a medical device company I worked for in 1999. Except they’d just launched an “e-commerce site” to sell their medical hardware. Well, he figured why not just sell anything and everything via the site. I guess he was not wrong per se but then he also was not Jeff Bezos.

@quillmatiq

regular tech CEO's want everything apps.

exceptional tech CEO's want everybody to permanently wear their goggles.

singular tech CEO's want to implant a device on everyone's brain.

@quillmatiq Social network app with photo sharing, payment system, online shop and gacha game powered by Ai. That should sell.
@quillmatiq but what do you give the app that has everything next quarter?
The biggest problem with having an everything app is that people can't figure out what it does.
@quillmatiq ah, the missed opportunity of platform independent web-based mobile apps.
@quillmatiq they say emacs is like an operating system since you can do everything in emacs without leaving it.

@quillmatiq
Almost there… keep thinking…

One day, with a little work, he can become an adult.
